Cosmopolis School Board President Betty Campbell received a 10-year service award for service to the Cosmopolis School Board at the Washington State School Directors Conference recently held in Bellevue.
Cosmopolis School presented two seminars at the conference. Cherie Patterson and Ron Francisco presented “Cosmopolis Elementary School’s Technology Journey.” They shared the school’s technology journey for successfully implementing a one-to-one iPad program in grades two through six. The team shared everything from the infrastructure to instruction strategies and staff support. They highlighted the community support the school received via grants from Cosmo Specialty Fibers and the Grays Harbor Community Foundation.
School Board member Judi Lohr presented her “Art on a Shoestring” program in the Small Schools “Showcase of Innovation with Community Support.” Her after-school program is in its third year, with the support of the Cosmopolis Lions Club. She shared, with districts statewide, how to implement this low-cost program and bring art back to the school curriculum. Samples of her students’ work were on display during the presentation.
In other news with Cosmopolis School, Superintendent and Principal Cherie Patterson has received the “Spirit of Leadership Award” from the ESD 113 Executive Advisory Committee for her work in the Cosmopolis School District. The award is given monthly based on demonstration of the highest level of “closing the gap” in reading for all schools within the ESD 113 during 2012-2013.
