Kindergarten and preschool registrations

Several school districts in the area are holding registration for kindergarten and preschool soon.

All children who are five years old on or before Aug. 31, 2014 are eligible for kindergarten for the 2014-15 school year. Preschoolers need to be four years old on or before Aug. 31, 2014. Proof of the child’s immunizations and a birth certificate are required on the day of registration.


Elma Elementary will hold kindergarten registration from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3:30 p.m., Thursday, May 1, in the superintendent’s office at the school.

Kindergarten and preschool registration for the 2014-2015 school year in Raymond will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 24 and 8:30 to 11 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m., Friday, April 25 at Raymond Elementary School.


Registration for Emerson Elementary kindergarten will be held Tuesday, April 29 from 9 to 10:45 a.m., noon to 2:30 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at the school.

Parents in the Hoquiam School District may call the Early Childhood Education and Assistance program at 360-538-2190 to determine if their child is income eligible for preschool. For questions about children who many have a developmental delay, call 360-538-8413. Parents wishing to sign up their child for the “lottery” for tuition-based student slots should call Lincoln School, 360-538-8250. Names will be drawn May 1 and families notified.

Raymond free screening

The Raymond School District is seeking children age birth to age 5 who may need a free screening to check their development. The screening will cover large motor development, hand-eye coordination, communication, concepts, personal-social skills and self help skills. An appointment will be arranged during kindergarten registration on April 24 and 25.

The purpose of the screen is to identify any factors that may interfere with your child’s learning, growth, and development. The screening is also provided to help parents identify their child’s strength’s and weaknesses and provide suggestions for additional help at home.
