Looking Back — 101 Loop

The completion of the US Highway 101 “loop” drew a big crowd to the beach at Kalaloch on Aug. 28, 1931. Government dignitaries as well as members of the Quillayute, Queets, Quinault, Hoh and Makah tribes participated in the two-day celebration. The completed highway opened the Olympic Peninsula to automobile tourism for the first time.
