VOLUNTEER NEEDED! Interested in improving local senior services? Olympic Area Agency on Aging (O3A) seeks a Grays Harbor County Representative for O3A’s Advisory Council. Volunteer will serve on an advisory board which focuses on aging and long term care services. Contact Carol Ann Laase at 866-720-4863; laaseca@dshs.wa.gov for more information or application. CHRONIC PAIN SELF-MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP: Grays Harbor Community Hospital in collaboration with Olympic Area Agency on Aging has scheduled a FREE workshop open to the public: “Chronic Pain Self-Management.” This workshop will begin Wednesday, Aug. 6, in the East Campus conference room D, 1006 No. H Street, Aberdeen, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The workshop will continue each Wednesday for six weeks ending on Sept. 10. This program was developed for people who have primary or secondary diagnoses of chronic pain and is designed to give participants the skills and confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active, fulfilling lives. The workshops will be taught by two trained leaders. All of the materials individuals will be using were developed by Stanford University’s Chronic Disease Self-Management Program. ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION: Caring for someone with memory loss? Alzheimer’s Association caregiver support groups provide a consistent and caring place for people to learn, share, and gain emotional support from others who are also on a unique journey of providing care to a person with memory loss. Starting in July 2014, a free information and support group for unpaid care partners, family members, and friends is held the third Tuesday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Aberdeen, 420 N. HARBORS HOME HEALTH &HOSPICE FOOT CLINIC: For Seniors or other persons unable to reach or care for their own feet, there are foot clinics throughout Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties at various times and locations. This is trimming and maintenance nail care for well feet (not covered by Medicare). The cost is $25. For location and appointments, call (360) 532-5454 or 1-800-772-1319. There are openings now for appointments in Elma, Montesano, Westport, Hoquiam, South Bend, Ocean Park, Klipsan Beach, Ilwaco and Naselle. Appointments available, call today to receive your foot care.

MEDICAL EQUIPMENT: The Coalition of Services Medical Equipment Closet, sponsored by the North Beach Senior Resource Center, is now operating. If you are in need of medical equipment, such as commodes, walkers, raised toilet seats, wheelchairs, etc. please call (369)289-3352 or (360) 289-0201. The Coalition will also accept donations of equipment. Also, the Thurston County Council on Aging is sponsoring a medical supply/equipment bank, offering, free of charge, the loan of supplies such as wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds, bedside commodes, canes, crutches, etc. to help in your recuperation. Also, they accept donations of medical equipment to be provided in the loan process. All donations are kept within the program and greatly appreciated. LEGAL SERVICES: The Northwest Justice Project (NJP) is a not-for-profit statewide organization providing free civil legal services to eligible low-income people and seniors. For information on services, check out www.nwjustice.org. NJP operates a toll-free intake and referral system called CLEAR (Coordinated Legal Education Advice and Referral) at 1-888-201-1014 (or 1-888-387-7111 for seniors 60 and over). NJP provides free legal help, including advice, brief legal service, and, where available, a referral for further representation. Intake hours are weekdays, 9:10 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. You can also apply for services online any time at nwjustice.org/clear-online. NJP maintains an extensive library of legal resources and self-help materials at www.washingtonlawhelp.org and videos at www.youtube.com/user/NWJusticeProject/videos. If you have a collection, eviction or education case, please call our local Aberdeen office at 360-533-2282 to see if a local intake is appropriate. All other cases will be referred to CLEAR.

MEDICARE HEALTH INSURANCE: The Olympic Area Agency on Aging and SHIBA (Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors) provide answers to Medicare Health Insurance Questions. Are you happy with your current health insurance coverage? Does your current Medicare plan meet your needs? We supply free information on Medicare, Medicare prescription drug plan options, and Medicare Advantage plans. Please call either (360) 538-2443 or (360) 538-2444 for additional information.

HOME CARE REFERRAL REGISTRY: The Home Care Referral Registry serves consumers/clients receiving in-home care services through the Department of Social and Health Services or those on the COPES (Community Options Program Entry System) program. They are also helping clients receiving services through the Division of Developmental Disabilities find the right Individual Provider. The Referral Registry matches pre-qualified, pre-screened, individual providers with Medicaid eligible clients who need in-home care services.
