LIVING WELL WITH CHRONIC CONDITIONS WORKSHOPS: Sea Mar Community Health Center, in collaboration with Olympic Area Agency on Aging, has scheduled a FREE workshop open to the public: “Living Well with Chronic Conditions”. This workshop begins Monday, June 2nd at Sea Mar in the first floor conference room from 10 am to 12:30 pm. It runs 2 ½ hours every Monday, for 6 consecutive weeks, ending on July 7th. Any individual suffering from a chronic condition such as asthma, heart disease, chronic pain, and arthritis just to name a few, will benefit from attending the classes. The workshop will be taught by two trained leaders. All of the materials individuals will be using were developed by Stanford University’s Chronic Disease Self-Management Program. This workshop is designed to help lessen stress and frustration and help manage symptoms relating to one’s chronic condition. DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP: Sea Mar Comm. Health Clinic is offering a Diabetes Support Group meeting every Monday 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the clinic, 1813 Sumner Ave, Aberdeen. For more information please call (360) 537-4213

GRAYS HARBOR BRAIN INJURY SUPPORT GROUP: This group meets from noon to 2:00 p.m. every Thursday, downstairs at the Hoquiam Library, 420 7th Street. For more information contact Barb (360) 281-5332.

HARBORS HOME HEALTH &HOSPICE FOOT CLINIC: For Seniors or other persons unable to reach or care for their own feet, there are foot clinics throughout Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties at various times and locations. This is trimming and maintenance nail care for well feet (not covered by Medicare). The cost is $25. For location and appointments, call (360) 532-5454 or 1-800-772-1319. There are openings now for appointments in Elma, Montesano, Westport, Hoquiam, South Bend, Ocean Park, Klipsan Beach, Ilwaco and Naselle. LONG-TERM CARE OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM: Be an Advocate. The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program of Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties is currently in need of volunteers. An ombudsman advocates for residents of long-term care facilities in a variety of ways, such as promoting resident rights, helping to resolve complaints and empowering residents to become self-advocates. MEDICARE HEALTH INSURANCE: The Olympic Area Agency on Aging and SHIBA (Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors) provide answers to Medicare Health Insurance Questions. Are you happy with your current health insurance coverage? Does your current Medicare plan meet your needs? SENIOR LEGAL ADVICE CLINIC IN GRAYS HARBOR AND PACIFIC COUNTY: Senior Legal Advice Clinics are now available in the Olympic Area Agency on Aging Information &Assistance offices in Aberdeen, Raymond and Long Beach. This is a free service to elders 60+ who want/need to meet with an attorney face-to-face for some guidance. Seniors may also send a representative for themselves if they are unable to meet with the attorney. The sessions are generally 30 minutes and can cover a variety of topics ranging from wills, Powers of Attorney, tenant rights, estate questions and so on. The attorney will be in the Aberdeen office Tuesday, June 17th. Just contact our offices, Aberdeen (360) 532-0520/Raymond (360) 942-2177/Long Beach (360) 642-3634 and request an appointment.

MEDICAL EQUIPMENT: The Coalition of Services Medical Equipment Closet, sponsored by the North Beach Senior Resource Center, is now operating. If you are in need of medical equipment, such as commodes, walkers, raised toilet seats, wheelchairs, etc. please call (369)289-3352 or (360) 289-0201. The Coalition will also accept donations of equipment. Also, the Thurston County Council on Aging is sponsoring a medical supply/equipment bank, offering, free of charge, the loan of supplies such as wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds, bedside commodes, canes, crutches, etc. to help in your recuperation. Also, they accept donations of medical equipment to be provided in the loan process. All donations are kept within the program and greatly appreciated. HOME CARE REFERRAL REGISTRY: The Home Care Referral Registry serves consumers/clients receiving in-home care services through the Department of Social and Health Services or those on the COPES (Community Options Program Entry System) program. They are also helping clients receiving services through the Division of Developmental Disabilities find the right Individual Provider. The Referral Registry matches pre-qualified, pre-screened, individual providers with Medicaid eligible clients who need in-home care services.
