Willapa students headed to national FCCLA event

Eight Willapa Valley FCCLA students (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) were in Wenatchee March 24-26 for the state FCCLA leadership conference. Six competed at the state level in STAR Events.

Claire Borg, Amber Anderson and Sidney Pollard competed in Focus in Children, designing lessons for first graders on eating right, being fit and making healthy choices. Hallee Layman presented a Nutrition and Wellness portfolio. Bryttney Deniston and Jessica Koski presented an Illustrated Talk on Lyme Disease. Chris Rondon had submitted a FCCLA Chapter Website online acted as a timer for the National Program in Action event.

At the STAR Event banquet and Gala, four of the students — Jessica Koski, Bryttney Deniston, Chris Rondon and Hallee Layman — learned that they were first place winners and will represent Washington in their event at the national leadership meeting this July in San Antonio, Texas.

WA-FCCLA Director of Recognition, Chahayla Barton, assisted with opening, general, business and closing sessions.

Donations can be made by calling Willapa Valley School at 942-3275 to help these students with registration, housing, airfare and meal money.
