South Bend residents Robert and Doris Byrd will celebrate their golden anniversary this month.
Robert Byrd married Doris Smith on Feb. 15, 1964, at the Methodist Church in South Bend.
They both graduated from South Bend High School in 1962, have lived in South Bend their entire marriage, moving into their current house famous for its Christmas light displays in 1971.
Bob worked for Weyerhaeuser almost his whole career and retired in 2007. Doris attended Grays Harbor College before they got married. She worked from home until she decided to open Sweet Dreams Bakery in Raymond. She retired in 2007 with Bob but decided to go back to work in the deli at Pioneer Grocery in South Bend.
They have three sons — James Byrd of Raymond, Tom Byrd of Rathdrum, Idaho and Rich Byrd of Nemah — and three grandchildren.
Bob and Doris will have a golden anniversary party at the Raymond Elks on the Feb. 22 hosted by the sons and family.
