Long-time Aberdeen residents, Robert and Mary Ellen Salmon celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in March.
Robert and Mary Ellen Wold were married March 20, 1954, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Aberdeen.
They both attended the McDermoth Elementary in Aberdeen and began dating when Mary Ellen was still in Miller Junior High School. Robert graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1950, Mary Ellen in 1951. Following graduation Bob spent four years in the Air Force, serving in the Korean War. Mary Ellen attended Grays Harbor Business College and held various secretarial jobs while he completing his Civil Engineering Degree at Washington State University in Pullman. He later worked for the City of Aberdeen as Water Superintendent starting in 1966 after his father, Norman J. Salmon passed away while serving in that role. Salmon retired as Public Works Director with the city in 1996.
The couple gathered last month with family and friends at a celebration hosted by their three children and their spouses: Jay Salmon (Kris) of Olympia, Pamela Salmon Mauk (Richard) of Timnath, Colo. and Kim Salmon Dixon (Brendan) of Seattle. The Salmons have five grandchildren.
