Aberdeen Police recover car stolen from Elma


The Aberdeen Police Department recovered a car stolen from the Elma area yesterday, Capt. John Green reported.

Aberdeen officers received a report of a recklessly driven vehicle on East Wishkah Street near Jack in the Box. The vehicle was described as a green Ford Explorer with volunteer firefighter license plate, which an Aberdeen officer recognized as reported stolen from Elma.

Officers searched for the vehicle for 20 minutes without success until Officer Chris Rathbun decided to check an area where another stolen vehicle had recently been recovered, Green said.

He found the Explorer near Market and A streets, driven by a lone woman. Rathbun stopped the vehicle and took the driver, a 20-year-old Federal Way woman into custody on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle. She was booked into the City of Aberdeen Jail.

An Elma Police Department officer responded to assist in the investigatino, and after the vehicle was processed by police, it was returned to its rightful owners, Green said.The investigation is ongoing.
