The Aberdeen School Board is seeking candidates to replace Doug Smith, who resigned at the end of March because he is moving out of state.
“All with a genuine interest in education are welcome to apply,” said informal minutes for the April 15 meeting. Candidates cannot be employed by the district.
Superintendent Thomas Opstad will prepare more information about the process and timeline, informal minutes of the board meeting on April 15 said.
Opstad has a link about the process in his blog at www.asd5.org.
According to information at the link, the board has 90 days from the vacancy to appoint a new director from the candidates by roll call vote by no less than three directors.
The appointee will serve until the next regularly scheduled school board election in 2015. The new popularly-elected director will serve out Smith’s unexpired term, until 2017.
All director positions are at large. Terms are four years.
Smith, who has a son and a daughter who attended Aberdeen High School, was appointed in 2003 and re-elected in 2013.
The district address is 216 N. G St., Aberdeen, 98520.
