South Bend’s Chauncey Davis Elementary School Principal Kresta Byington was recently awarded the Pacific and Grays Harbor Regional Distinguished Elementary Principal award by the Elementary School Principals Association of Washington.
Byington has been the principal at the elementary school for 10 years and with the district for 18 years. She will officially be recognized at the state’s principals’ conference in October.
“When I was told that I would move to the superintendent position, Mrs. B was my first and only thought as the next elementary principal,” said South Bend Superintendent Mike Morris. “She was an outstanding classroom teacher and exhibited all of the leadership skills needed to be an outstanding administrator. She certainly has never let me down. I am very proud of her and the job that she has done for our kids and her staff over the years.”
Byington said she would like to thank the association for recognizing school principals, and the staff at Chauncey and South Bend parents for helping to make her leadership possible.
“It really does take a village to raise a child and I wouldn’t want to be any other place,” she said.
