SOUTH BEND — The Federal Emergency Management Agency will hold an open house for the public Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Willapa Harbor Community Center at 916 W. First St. in South Bend.
The two-hour meeting to help Pacific County residents learn how new changes to the federal flood insurance rate maps will affect them.
Recently, FEMA updated the maps for Pacific County for the first time since the late 1970s.
The new preliminary maps, which have not been officially adopted yet, differ from the old maps in several important ways.
Many areas of the peninsula that were previously designated as high-risk flood zones have been downgraded to lower categories, a change that has the potential to reduce flood insurance premiums and ease the way for new construction projects.
