The Hoquiam Police Department will host its eighth Drug Take Back Day Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the department. The department will accept unused or expired medication for safe disposal.
“This take back day is a great opportunity to clean your medicine cabinet of unwanted, unneeded or expired medications,” Chief Jeff Myers wrote in a press release. “Safe disposal prevents drugs from getting into the hands of children or drug abusers looking for a quick high.”
All medications will be accepted so long as the container will not leak. There is no need to remove labels from prescription bottles and no one checks the origin of the medication.
The department’s last drug take back event April 27 allowed 53 people to bring in 122 pounds of unwanted prescription medication for safe disposal.
To date, the department has collected a total of 773 pounds of medication through the Drug Enforcement Administration-sponsored program. The DEA covers the cost of incinerating the medication.
The department is located at 215 10th St., Hoquiam.
