Funds approved for music exhibit

Funds for a “Music of Grays Harbor” exhibit at the Aberdeen Museum of History were approved by the City Council on Wednesday. The request for $19,000 had been endorsed by the council’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee.

The funds will be used to build displays and print materials to showcase the musical history of the city and Grays Harbor. Museum Director and Curator Dann Sears hopes to beef up the exhibit about Aberdeen native Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. Others to be included in the exhibit include Kurt Vanderhoof of The Melvins and Hall Aflame, Patrick Simmons of the Doobie Brothers, the Beachcombers, The National Elks Band, Doris Marshal, trumpet player with the Hormel Meat Packing company band, and Peter Blecha, a music critic and writer.
