Grant pays for energy efficiencies at Aberdeen treatment plant

The Aberdeen City Council voted to authorize Mayor Bill Simpson to sign an agreement with the state Department of Commerce to receive a grant for $154,000 to make the aeration basins at the city’s wastewater treatment plant more energy efficient.

The grant will pay for more energy effective blowers for the aeration basins, improving their operation, said Public Works Director Malcolm Bowie Wednesday after the meeting. The city is under contract with Ameresco, which hired Rognlin’s to do the work, the staff report said.
