It’ll cost you 20 bucks to get your water turned back on

The Aberdeen Public Works Department will start charging a $20 fee for turning a customer’s water back on if it’s been shut off for non-payment.

The fee will be implemented as of May 1, thanks to approval by City Council of the recommendation by of the Public Works Committee.

The fee was on the books but had not been charged, Public Works Director Malcolm Bowie said. Even with new, “smart” water meters, turning water back on requires a personal trip to the home, he added.
