It’s never too late to adopt the instructions. So the Aberdeen Department of Public Works discovered recently when they could find no evidence that the Operations and Maintenance manual for the South Side Levee had ever been adopted by city council.
“We had them we just never officially ‘adopted’ them,” said Public Works Director Malcolm Bowie Thursday.
The South Side Dike is being re-certified by FEMA and must meet certain requirements including adoption of the manuals. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sent the manuals, Volumes I and II, to the city back in 1999, four years after the levee was constructed in 1995-96.
So, 15 years later on Wednesday night, the Aberdeen City Council finally adopted the manuals by a unanimous vote.
