K-9 catches suspect in Grayland generator theft


A man is in custody after allegedly stealing a generator from a home in Grayland Thursday night, the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Department reported.

At about 10 p.m., Deputy Tracy Gay say a man pushing a hand truck along State Route 105 in Grayland. Because the area has had several recent burglaries, Gay attempted to contact the man. The suspect dropped the hand truck and ran into some nearby bushes.

Gay, also the county’s K-9 handler, used K-9 Max to track the man, recovering a large generator that was partially covered in brush. Max then located a man hiding in the bushes. The suspect refused to come out, and Max made contact with the man’s leg. The man surrendered with minor abrasions to his leg.

After receiving medical attention, the suspect was taken to the Grays Harbor County Jail, where he was booked on several outstanding warrants in addition to possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.

Deputies were able to find out who the generator belonged to and return it. Investigators will be looking into the suspect’s possible involvement in other crimes, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
