Congressman Derek Kilmer will host an event March 7, in Tacoma, to promote the economic advancement of women. The event, titled “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families,” will also feature Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland.
The event will feature remarks from Kilmer and Strickland, a resource fair with local organizations and agencies to help with housing resources, job training programs, higher education opportunities, legal services, nutrition assistance and childcare resources. There will also be first-hand accounts from Pierce county women discussing their experiences fighting for equal opportunity, economic advancement, and work-family life balance.
“Eliminating barriers and increasing opportunities for women to succeed helps families, our community, and our national economy,” Kilmer said. “Almost half of all workers are women and 40 percent of working women are the primary breadwinners in their families.”
The event will take place at from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Evergreen State College, Tacoma Campus. All members of the public are invited to attend the free event, including families and children.
