Kilmer solicits work from young artists

Rep. Derek Kilmer is inviting high school students in the sixth congressional district to participate in this year’s Congressional Art Competition.

This annual competition began in 1982 as a way for U.S. representatives to encourage the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, 650,000 students have participating.

Young artists can enter work measuring 28 inches by 28 inches, including the frame. The art must not measure more than 4 inches thick.

Students may enter oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings; pastel, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink and marker drawings; collages; prints including lithographs, silkscreens and block prints; mixed media; computer generated art and photography.

The artwork must be original in design, concept and execution.

Artists can submit their work and time before 12 p.m. April 10. Artwork may be submitted to Kilmer’s district offices located at 950 Pacific Ave. Suite 1230, Tacoma 98402 or 345 Sixth Ave. Suite 500, Bremerton 98337.
