Little Leaguers compete in a pancake eating contest on June 18, 1960, at Jack’s Drive-In. The contest was used to promote the Lions Club pancake breakfast a few days later at Zelasko Park. The breakfast was a fundraiser to help build a new Little League field in “the Pioneer Park area,” according to The Daily World. Identified in a separate photo in The Daily World in 1960 were the winner of the contest, Eric Heikkila, fourth from left here, and Brad Gill, to Heikkila’s right. Heikkila reportedly consumed 14 hotcakes to win the title. If you can identify any of the other kids or the two adults in the photo, or have any more information on this photo or others from this feature, visit www.jonesphotocollection.com and submit it via the website’s feedback form.
