Police search for men involved in Aberdeen shooting

An early morning fight at an Aberdeen motel left one man injured and sent a bullet through a motel room, the Aberdeen Police Department said.

Officers were advised at about 3 a.m. Friday that a fight was in progress at the Trave-Lure Motel on Wishkah Street, involving four or five people. While en route, officers were told shots had been fired, Capt. John Green wrote in a press release.

At the hotel, officers found evidence of guns being fired in the parking lot. The victim, a 37-year-old Taholah man, was found inside a room and appeared to have gunshot wounds. The Aberdeen Fire Department responded to treat the man and transport him to Grays Harbor Community Hospital.

Investigators learned that the man was allegedly shot during the fight in the parking lot. One round was located going through the door of one of the rooms. No one was injured inside.

Kimberly Perrigo was in the room where the bullet entered.

“If it had been any lower, it could have killed me and my friend,” Perrigo said. “That’s messed up.”

If it had gone through another area of the room, the bullet might have struck her oxygen tank.

“It could have been more than just a shooting, that machine could have been blown up,” Perrigo added.

The bullet went through her room into the room next door, where a man slept through the fight and shooting. He declined to be identified.

A Cosmopolis Police Department officer responded to assist and found a 17-year-old Aberdeen boy in the area with a concealed semi-automatic handgun. He was arrested on a warrant from Grays Harbor Juvenile Court and taken to the Aberdeen Police Department. The handgun was seized.

“He’s definitely a person of interest in the investigation,” Green said.

Police are looking for three men, 17 to 21 years old, possibly Hispanic or Native American, who were at the scene and involved in the fight. They may have other hand guns.

The men were last seen wearing black jackets, black shorts and black baseball-style hats. Officers were told the men fled right after the victim was shot in a 1996 to 1999 Honda Accord with dark tinted windows and alloy wheels.

“A high-risk arrest of a person of interest” in the shooting, a 24-year-old male, was made in the 800 block of East Market Street by officers from Aberdeen, Hoquiam and Cosmopolis Friday about 6:30 p.m., Aberdeen Patrol Sgt. C.J. Chastain said. He would not say whether the man was one of the three men sought in the incident.

Three other men were also taken into custody and released in the operation Friday night, Chastain added. Traffic was briefly blocked. “It all went smoothly, no one was hurt,” he said.
