Salstrom receives award for rescuing children

Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers presented Sgt. Jeff Salstom with a Lifesaving Award at a Monday Hoquiam City Council meeting.

Salstrom received the award after rescuing an 8-year-old boy, a 3-year-old girl and a 15-year-old babysitter from a large dog last fall. Myers commended Salstrom for his bravery and ability to act quickly.

“As those in law enforcement know, things seem like they take forever but they really go by so quickly,” Myers said.

Salstrom held his son while he received his medal. Hoquiam Mayor Jack Durney gave the child a commemorative button.
