Santa Claus is coming to town Saturday, with the annual Ho Ho Hoquiam celebration.
The event, sponsored by the Hoquiam Business Association, will kick off at 10 a.m. with the Penguin Classic Fun Run. Registration for the run starts at 9 a.m. in front of the 7th St. Theatre. Participants can register for either the two mile walk or run, the 5K run or the 10K run.
Santa will arrive at Central Elementary at 11 a.m. There will be a bike and gift raffle, and every child will receive a goody bag. A photographer will be present, but parents are encouraged to bring their own cameras for Santa photos.
Later in the afternoon, Hoquiam businesses will display their decorated Christmas trees for the Cocoa Stroll and Festival of Trees. Those interested can vote for their favorite trees after picking up a ballot at the 7th St. Theatre, along with a cup of cocoa provided by Hoquiam 7-11. The participating businesses will be open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the first 100 people to return completed ballots will receive a Ho Ho Hoquiam commemorative ornament.
The Hoquiam High School band and choir will perform Christmas carols for the Lighting of the Wreath in front of the 7th St. Theatre at 7 p.m.
The Hoquiam Lions Club will raffle off this year’s prize — a quad or $3,000 cash. Raffle tickets, which cost $10, can be purchased now at Harbor Drug, Economy Cleaners or 8th St. Ale House.
The drawing will take place after the Lighting of the Wreath.
Ho Ho Hoquiam will conclude with a showing of “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” at 7:30 p.m. at the 7th St. Theatre. A set of authentic moose mugs will be raffled off before the show.
