A second forum about how hospital districts could affect Grays Harbor Fire District 2 will be held at Station 32 in Brady at 8 Fire Station Rd. in Montesano, Wednesday, July 23 at 7 p.m.
Representatives will be on hand from Hospital District 1, which encompasses Summit Pacific Medical Center and the proposed Hospital District 2, which encompasses Grays Harbor Community Hospital.
If voters approve Hospital District 2 in the August election, then Fire District 2 will be absorbed by it. An elected board of hospital commissioners could possibly vote to apply a levy. Hospital District 2 would stretch the entire length of the county from Brady to the coast.
If voters reject formation of Hospital District 2, then the existing Hospital District 1 is poised to ask voters to annex an area west of their current boundary to include Brady and Montesano in the November election.
Most of Fire District 2 would then be annexed into Hospital District 1, which would mean property owners would pay the current hospital levy of 50 cents per $1,000 in assessed value on top of the fire district levy they already pay. Even though a sliver of the fire district would be excluded, property owners would still have to pay the 50 cents, said Fire District Chief Leonard Johnson at the first forum on the issue held in Central Park last Wednesday.
