Sex offender found, arrested

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office has located a Level 3 sex offender who failed to report to the Sheriff’s Office or the Department of Corrections.

Abraham E. Bates, 28, was wanted by the police because he failed to register. The Sheriff’s Office reported Wednesday morning he was arrested by the Bremerton Police Department Tuesday night and is currently in the Kitsap County Jail.

On Sept. 4, 2010, Bates pleaded guilty to third-degree attempted rape, first-degree criminal trespass with sexual motivation and possession of methamphetamine.

The conviction stems from incidents when Bates was 25 and attempted to assault two women.

Bates contacted a 50-year-old woman in an apartment complex laundry area, began removing his clothing, informed the woman he was going to rape her and grabbed the woman, who was able to escape.

Later, Bates entered a neighbor’s apartment and contacted a 25-year-old woman inside, began removing his clothing and informed the woman he was going to rape her. The woman was able to force bates out of her apartment, but he was able to get back in later. Police arrived before Bates was able to carry out his threats.
