Two promoters have submitted proposals to lease Grays Harbor Raceway for the 2014-2016 race seasons. The Grays Harbor County commissioners today accepted proposals from Circle Motion Promotions of Snohomish and Fun Time Promotions in Burlington.
“We’re not accepting either one,” Commissioner Herb Welch noted via speakerphone.
The commissioners have a special meeting set for Tuesday to review the proposals in depth.
At their morning meeting Monday, Commissioner Wes Cormier said that while they’re not under any specific statutory deadline to get another promoter to operate the track, the racing season schedule won’t wait for Grays Harbor. One of the largest racing organizations, The World of Outlaws, has nearly wrapped up its schedule for next season.
“The sooner we pick, the better it will be for the person we get in there,” Cormier said.
The commissioners fired the previous promoter, Great Northwest Promotions LLC, without fanfare at their Oct. 15 meeting, citing breach of contract.
