The City of Aberdeen and Aberdeen Police Officers Guild are headed back to the bargaining table after meeting Wednesday for mediation over a new three-year contract.
Mediation between the parties will continue Monday, May 19.
Among other issues, the parties disagree about hours the officers will work. Chief Bob Torgerson has proposed a straight five-day, eight -hour-per-day work week with two consecutive days off. Most union members currently work four consecutive eleven-hour days on and then have four consecutive days off.
The contract was one of four city contracts to expire at the end of last year. The other three have agreed to new contracts. The firefighters contract was extended for one year, until the end of 2014.
