VFW is back

“We are back,” says Post #224 Commander Jim Daly of the Aberdeen Veterans Of Foreign Wars.

“We have never quit serving veterans, but we have not had a post home for two full years. Everyone should come by … to see the new look of the building. Everything is clean, painted, well lit and bright. It doesn’t look the same at all,” he said.

A perfect opportunity is to attend, Daly said, is after the Monday, Memorial Day observance at Fern Hill Cemetery at 11 a.m. The barbecue and fundraiser at the renovated post is at 105 E. Heron St.

Memorial Day observance falls on May 26.

“Please come support our local Veterans. There will hamburgers, baked beans, chips, and pop, for $8 or substitute

a hot dog and it will be $7.” said Nell Todd, Auxiliary President. “We will also hold a raffle for several baskets,

and a 50/50.”

Commander Daly reminded that this is an opportunity to join or renew membership if qualified. To become a member of the join the VFW a veteran must have been in a direct support role of combat operations of the U.S. military. To become a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, a woman must have an immediate family member (father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, daughter, or son) qualified to be a VFW member.

The Post and Auxiliary plan to return to full swing very soon.

“We plan to get our Bingo back into operation at the post. Soon we’ll also be serving dinners, breakfast on weekends, and maybe even lunches. And our lounge will be operational soon as well,” said Terry Holderman, Post Quartermaster.

Donations may also be made to the special donation account at Anchor Bank or dropped off from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. or mailed to the VFW at 105 E. Heron St., Aberdeen, 98520.
