An alert citizen at the Seaview Beach access helped save a man who apparently walked into the ocean fully clothed Thursday morning.
The man called police at about 6 a.m. Thursday when he saw the other man walk into the surf, according to the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office.
“The alert caller stated that he had tried to speak with the man about what his intentions were and the man kept walking into the ocean,” Chief Criminal Deputy Pat Matlock wrote in a press release.
A deputy responded and found the man in the ocean up to his chest, about 200 yards off shore.
Members of the South Pacific County Technical Rescue Team also responded and deployed rescue swimmers and a personal water craft rescue vessel. A swimmer was able to reach the man and get him to shore safely.
The man was transported to Ocean Beach Hospital in Ilwaco for observation.
“The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the alert citizens for calling and observing the subject in the ocean until help could arrive and the members of the South Pacific County Technical Rescue Team for their quick response,” Matlock added.
