MONTESANO — The Grays Harbor County commissioners on Monday unanimously appointed Lane Youmans as the county coroner. He takes over for Dan Burns, who retired on June 1.
Youmans will also be on the ballot in November to formally be elected to the position. He has no declared opponents.
A retired detective, Youmans has served as deputy coroner for the past seven years after 30 years working for the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office. He was named interim coroner when Burns retired.
Because Burns was a Democrat, the Grays Harbor Democrats selected three names to replace Burns and submitted those named to the county commissioners.
Youmans was the top pick, followed by Ruth Kivi, a Democratic precinct committee officer from Montesano who is retired and former party chairman Patrick Wadsworth, a sheet metal mechanic. Youmans was the only one really interested in the position. The others just added their name to the list to comply with state guidelines.
