EPHRATA, Wash. — An inmate who managed to escape from the Grant County jail on Sunday morning was apprehended about 21/2 hours later, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office reported Sunday afternoon.
About 10 a.m., the sheriff’s office said, Jaime D. Hampshire, 29, escaped from the jail as another subject was being released.
About 12:30 p.m., Hampshire was found and apprehended at a home in Moses Lake, about 20 miles away.
Hampshire was in jail for felony theft charges. The sheriff’s office said an investigation has been started to find out how he escaped.
“This was a great coordinated effort between Ephrata Police Department and Grant County Sheriff’s Office, resulting in a quick apprehension of the suspect,” Sheriff Tom Jones said in the office’s release.
