Carolyn Patrica Malizia, 55, a lifetime resident of Montesano, passed away in her home Friday, February 7, 2014. Born May 19, 1958, in Aberdeen, the daughter of Ilo M. and Gladys G. (Lowe) Latch she was raised in Montesano and would graduate from Montesano High School in 1976. After graduating from Western Washington University in 1979 she would return the following year to attain a Masters in education.
On November 6, 1979, Carolyn and Ralph Malizia were married at the Montesano Methodist Church. She taught as a substitute teacher for many years after teaching at Satsop Elementary for three years. Following her time teaching, Carolyn became a stay at home mom to raise her family. During this time she briefly taught Sunday School at the Montesano Methodist Church.
As a grandmother, she absolutely adored her two grandsons and loved spending time with them. She had a “green thumb” and as a result could often be found in her green house built by her husband and eldest son, Joseph. It wasn’t uncommon for her to craft decorative items for the home, and she also enjoyed knitting blankets.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Ralph, of the family home in Montesano; two sons, Joseph of Williston, North Dakota and Johnathon of Seattle; a daughter, Jennifer and husband, Tyler McDonald; two grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews; and of course her small service dog, Petey.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, February 14, 2014, at the Parish Hall of St. John’s Catholic Church in Montesano.
A card of condolence with a message or memory may be sent to the family at www.fernhillfuneral.com.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fern Hill Funeral Home of Aberdeen.
