Darrell Eugene Potter, age 76 and a longtime resident of the North Beach area, residing in Aloha for the past 44 years, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, in Aberdeen, Wash.
He was born on August 2, 1938, in Aberdeen to Leo and Thelma Potter. He graduated from Moclips High School in 1956. He then attended Grays Harbor Community College, graduating in 1958.
Darrell married his high school sweetheart, Ann Hyland on November 22, 1958.
He worked in the timber industry his entire life with jobs ranging from choker setter to running the mill pond in Aloha. He retired from the Weyerhaeuser sawmill in 1996.
Darrell attended the Pacific Beach Community Church and for 42 years was a volunteer fireman with the Grays Harbor Fire District No. 8 at Pacific Beach. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and an all around outdoorsman. He and his wife also loved traveling to all their grandchildren’s sporting events and social activities. Darrell also enjoyed tutoring at the reading program at the Pacific Beach Elementary School.
In addition to his wife, Ann, he is survived by a son, Mike Potter (Ann) of Forks; a daughter, Kathy Potter (Doug) of Forks; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and a brother, Norman Potter of Copalis Crossing. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy Jacobs.
In lieu of flowers, memorial fund donations may be made to the Grays Harbor Fire District No. 8, or to the Pacific Beach Community Church.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the Pacific Beach Community Church, 19 – 4th Street. A potluck reception will follow at the community hall of the Pacific Beach Fire Station District No. 8, 4576 SR 109.
