Doris Matilda McGuire, 87, lifetime Aberdeen resident and former secretary at the Grays Harbor Chamber of Commerce and The Morck Hotel, died Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Montesano Health & Rehab Center in Montesano.
Doris was born on May 18, 1926, in Aberdeen, to Fred and Tillie (Thommen) Hepner. She graduated from Aberdeen’s J.M. Weatherwax High School in 1944, and then attended college at Grays Harbor Business School.
On May 18, 1951, Doris married Robert A. McGuire in Elma. He resides at the family home.
Doris worked as a secretary for the Grays Harbor Chamber from 1955, til her retirement in 1961, and before that she worked at The Morck Hotel for 10 years.
She was a member of the Grays Harbor Country Club where she was the Ladies golf division champion for close to 20 years and she was also the Washington State Senior Ladies Champion. Doris loved to play golf and when she had time, more golf. She was a shy person, but she had a lot of friends. She enjoyed spending time on the Hood Canal for summer vacations and going south for the winter to Arizona.
Doris is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert of Aberdeen; a daughter, Chris Smith of Centralia; a brother, Richard Hepner of Woodinville, Wash.; four grandchildren, Tina Cook of Aberdeen, Jeff Snell, Jr., of Houston, Texas, Theresa Dollins of Missouri and Kevin McGuire of Hawaii; and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jody Arnsparger; and a brother, Fred Hepner Jr.
