Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Erma Helland passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014. Erma was born in Center, North Dakota, and lived most of her life in Western Washington. She married the love of her life Lee Helland in 1947, and they enjoyed an active life together until his passing away in June of 2004. They loved to travel together. Some favorites were trips to Reno several times a year, to California, and especially loved visiting with family and friends around the country. When at home they could often be seen driving around Aberdeen in a shiny convertible, often with their three local granddaughters in the back seat. Erma also loved making crafts, and for years made and sold Christmas corsages all around Aberdeen and Hoquiam.
Erma truly loved her work as a waitress and bartender, including several years at Duffy’s in Aberdeen. Everyone she met became a friend, and the people she worked with became her extended family. She was a hard worker, and always made time for fun with friends and family.
Erma is survived by her daughters, Joan Pirttila of Montesano and Linda Croy of Stevenson, Wash.; nine grandchildren, including granddaughters, Cathy Cole of Clackamas, Ore., Jody Collins of Hoquiam, and Susie Shivel of Olympia.
A graveside service was held at on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery in Lakewood.
