Ethel Catherine Carlzen, of Raymond, Wash., passed away peacefully at her home on April 6, 2014. She was 96. She was born and raised in Iron Mountain, Mich., and also lived in Chicago, Ill., Buffalo, N.Y., Wyoming, N.Y., and Palo Alto, Calif.
On March 15, 1941, Ethel married Carl F. Carlzen in Chicago, Ill.
She was an artist her entire life and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in South Buffalo, N.Y. Ethel loved aerobics, artwork, poetry, singing, horseback riding, farm life, ballroom dancing and attending Lockhead Missle Riders events with her husband Carl.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband Carl, her daughter Susan (Mark) Giberson, her parents Gust and Suzanna Ovist, Carl’s parents Martin and Marie Carlzen, eight brothers; Evald, Elmer, Rudy, Roy, Arvid, Andrew, Gilbert and Albert Ovist, and one sister, Mable Ovist-Wickman.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Lou (Gary) Nielsen of Raymond; two nieces, Shirley Fisher and Grace Norman; one nephew, Ernie Wickman of Iron Mountain, Mich.; four grandchildren, Kim Fortman, Ryan Smith, Cindy Sherman and Joshua Giberson; five great-grandchildren, Erika, Kirstin, Jake, Hanna, and Sophia; and two great-great-grandchildren, Carson and Kyleigh.
