Florence Brown of Eugene, Ore., formerly from Elma, died July 31, 2014. She was born Aug. 20, 1920, in Glasgow, Scotland, to “Scotty” and Helen Boyd. She graduated from Elma High School in 1938 and married Bob Brown in 1941. With Bob’s discharge from the Seabees following World War II, they worked together and later owned The Valley Cleaners in Elma. She and Bob enjoyed following Elma High School and all sports. They especially enjoyed golfing together and with friends at Oakridge Golf Course where they both had two holes in one.
Upon Bob’s death in 2002, she moved to Monroe, Ore., to live near their daughter, Sally Cutting and her family.
She was an avid volunteer for over 35 years, mostly in Grays Harbor, Needles, Calif., and culminating with eight years volunteering in kindergarten at Monroe.
Florence was preceded in death by her loving husband, sisters Muriel Marshall, Helen Evans and brother Tom Boyd.
She is survived by her sister, Agnes Aarhaus of Montesano, daughter Sally Cutting (David), their three daughters Nikki, Margaret and Stephanie and their families, numerous nieces and nephews and a cousin.
At Florence’s request there will be no funeral.
