Gregory Allen Simera passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital at the age of 45.
Greg was born in Aberdeen, Wash., to Linda Goings and Johnnie Simera Jr. on Aug.31, 1968. Greg’s life was filled with many friends and family. Greg is a 1987 graduate of Aberdeen High School. During Greg’s childhood years he enjoyed being part of the Special Olympics team and won medals in swimming and track. As Greg got older he also participated in various other Special Olympic sporting events such as softball and bowling.
He worked at various jobs as a janitor throughout his life, recently at Twin Harbor Group Home Association. Greg was a member of the ARC and People’s First organization. Greg’s favorite pastime was charter fishing in Westport. His late grandfather was a fisherman and you could always count on Greg to make the trek to be near the ocean.
Greg loved to attend all of the family events and he enjoyed being with his friends at the Aberdeen Manor where he lived for over 24 years. Greg enjoyed reading, watching movies and attending various BBQ’s, events and gatherings.
Greg was a staple in his family and we will always miss his laugh and presence.
Greg is survived by his mother and step-father, Linda and Wes Goings of Aberdeen and his father Johnnie Simera Jr. of Olympia; his special friend of over 10 years Rose Buhler; siblings Kim Simera, Jason Simera, Heather Gibbons (Brant), Jeremy Simera and Kyle Simera; step-siblings Van Goings (Cynthia), John Goings, Paul Goings (Debby), Debbie Morley and Gabrielle Moreno (Tom); Greg’s nieces Ashley Pettis, Alyssa Pettis, Sasha Bains, Abigail Gibbons and nephew, Aidan Gibbons; and various cousins, aunts, uncles and step-families.
Greg was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Dorothy Simera and his step-brother Wesley Goings II.
We would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the CCU at Grays Harbor Community for their excellent care they provided to Greg and to his family.
The family is planning a celebration of Greg’s life (potluck) for Sunday, Aug. 31 (his 46th birthday) at 1 p.m. at the Aberdeen Eagles. Please wear red in honor of Greg’s favorite color.
