James Norman (Norm) Smith passed away on January 19, 2014, in Aberdeen, at the age of 76. Norm was born to Frank Smith and Nancy Orcutt Smith on November 9, 1937. He attended school in Rochester, graduating in June of 1956. While in high school he lettered all four years playing football. Norm joined the National Guard when he was 17 years old and spent 20 years before he retired.
He married Clarice McGiveron in June of 1956, to that union was born three sons, Vern of Grand Mound, Chauncey of Tumwater and Melvin of Montesano. He is survived by one sister of Seattle; two brothers, Cliff of Alabama and Dale of Tenino. He married Donna Hall in March of 1998, and she had four children, Bob of Montesano, Patrina Sims of Missoula, Mont., Mark Hall of Montesano and Heidi Browne of Hoquiam. Norm had several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also had a Chihuahua dog, Rosie, that he loved dearly.
Norm was employed by Thurston County, as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1980, after 27 years. In his retirement he had various other employments. Operating two restaurants. The Ham and Egg House in South Aberdeen and the Angler in Westport. He also spent some time driving log trucks and did several short term jobs.
A service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the Montesano Church of God, at 317 Spruce Street in Montesano, Washington.
