Juanita Jewel Blumberg, 87, a resident of Hoquiam for the past five years, died on January 12, 2014, at her home in Hoquiam. Mrs. Blumberg was born in Hattie, Missouri on February 16, 1926, to Luther and Dora (Kidd) Pruett, one of 10 children.
The family moved to Markam on O’Leary Creak. She attended Ocosta, and graduated from Ocosta High School. During World War II, she worked in the tower at Ocosta as a lookout for enemy aircraft. At the age of 18, she began working at St. Joseph Hospital, then at Grays Harbor Community Hospital as an administrative assistant until her retirement in 1985.
She was active at the Karr House as a volunteer. She enjoyed going to Oyster feeds at Ocosta and was an active member in the Aberdeen VFW, Aberdeen Elks and Aberdeen Eagles.
She married Frank Silvan in 1944 and was later divorced. She later married Royal A. Blumberg in 1952. Royal died in 1994.
Surviving relatives include three sons, Rick (Jennifer) Silvan of Aberdeen, Albert L. (Betty) Blumberg of Shelton and Duncan B. (Cordy) Blumberg of Los Alamos, NM; a brother, Victor Pruett of Satsop; two sisters, Irene Richardson of Chehalis and Mae Stein of Bumble Bee, Arizona; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, January 17, 2014, at the IOOF Cemetery in Elma, Washington.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Karr House.
Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
