June Eileen Daniel, 91 years of age and a longtime Hoquiam area resident, died on Monday, February 24, 2014, at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam, Washington. She was born on December 25, 1922, in Vinita, Oklahoma, to Fred Tate and Nina (Shields) Davis and was the last of their nine children. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Her family came to the Woodlawn area when she was a child and June attended Hoquiam schools and graduated from Hoquiam High School. She then attended Dewitt’s Beauty College in Aberdeen. She operated her own beauty salon in East Hoquiam.
June was married to Thomas R. Daniel on December 9, 1944, in Hoquiam. The couple was instrumental in the development of Westport and they helped start commercial fishing, charter boat fishing, the Westport Charter Association, established the Westport library system and the Chamber of Commerce. She enjoyed mushroom picking and taking care of her huge garden.
June is survived by her daughter, Kim E. Daniel of Aberdeen; her grandson, Brandon Daniel of Aberdeen; a stepson, Thomas V. Daniel of Aberdeen; a stepdaughter, Marianne Waddel of California; a niece, Sandra Knutson of Aberdeen and other relatives. Her husband, Thomas R. “Tom” Daniel, died on April 19, 1985.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., on Monday, March 3, 2014, and Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam, Washington.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2014, in the Coleman Mortuary Chapel, 422 - 5th Street in Hoquiam with Bishop Cliff Talley officiating. Concluding service, dedication of the grave and interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam.
