Margaret (Missy) L. Thompson passed away on January 24, 2014, at her home in Oceanside, California. She was born to Louise and Floyd Vammen on January 8, 1935. She was born and raised in Aberdeen, Missy attended McDermoth Elementary, Miller Junior High and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1953. In 1958, she obtained a degree in Nursing from the University of Washington. Missy moved to Southern California in 1968. While working at Santa Monica Hospital where she met her husband, E.L. Bud Thompson. They were married on July 3, 1970, and lived in Torrance, California.
After retiring in 1988, Missy and Bud moved to Oceanside, California, where they enjoyed golfing, sailing, and the Southern California weather. Missy will be remembered for her love of family and the family summer home on Hood Canal, Wash., which she had been going to since 1941. Each summer she would return to the Vammen summer home for three months to enjoy the outdoors, fresh seafood, and the roots of her Northwest heritage.
Missy is preceded in death by husband; parents; two brothers, Floyd and Charles; and stepson, Terry Thompson. She is survived by her stepchildren, Keith (Molly) Thompson, Sherry (Wayne) Thompson and Dawn (Wayne) Coder, as well as sister-in-law, Carole Vammen; her niece, Julie Takasugi; nephews, Charlie, Erik, Chris Vammen; and six grandchildren, Derrick, Danny, Sara Sue, Tara, Justin and Troy Thompson.
A private memorial will take place in Oceanside, California, at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or to your local Hospice.
