Melba Bernice (Harvey) Foster


Melba Bernice (Harvey) Foster of Aberdeen passed away on Thursday March 27, 2014, at her home. She was 84. Melba was born March 24, 1930, to Eli and Lorene (Hake) Harveyin Wapello, Iowa.

Her family moved to Washington state in 1935. She attended Centralia High School.

On July 19, 1947, Melba married James C. Foster in Wapello, Iowa. He passed away in 2004.

Melba was a member of Faith Tabernacle where she held the offices of secretary and treasurer.

Melba enjoyed songwriting, horses, clam digging, camping and was a great seamstress. She loved to play football, baseball, and racing with her brother, Sonny. Melba, Melvin and Melford would climb hills and loved to pole vault down. The three of them played together a lot; Melford was Melvin’s best friend. Melba loved to climb and she and Melvin would climb on the roof of the house until Grandma Harvey would yell. : “YOU KIDS GET OFF THE ROOF” and they would pole vault down off the roof.

Melba is survived by her four daughters; Rosie J. Jones, Ginger R. Jones, Waiva M. Kennedy and Janice R. Mc Dowell; her son, Calvin P. Foster; two sisters, Nina Herrick and Naomi Harvey; 17 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren.

Along with her husband, James, Melba was preceded in death by her son, Bobby James Foster; and two brothers, Avery and Melvin “Sonny” Harvey.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday April 12, 2014, at Faith Tabernacle located at 10 Benton Lane in Aberdeen and a potluck will follow at Brady Grange.
