Beloved mother and grandmother, Patricia Ruth Hammock Hogan Baugher, 68, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2014, in Aberdeen, surrounded by her family. She was born to Clarence “Tuffy” Hammock and Ruth Kurrle Hammock on June 21, 1945, in Aberdeen.
Patti grew up in Montesano, and graduated from Montesano High School in 1963. After high school she attended Grays Harbor College. She was a member of the Montesano Medodist Church and Episcopal Church in Yakima.
To say Patti was involved in many activities is an understatement. In school she served on many class committees, including the Bulldog Staff (school newspaper), GAA, Drill Team, school choir, and was an academic honor student throughout her school years. In her senior year it was no surprise that she was voted “friendliest” by her classmates. Patti was very proud of the fact that she could type over 100 wpm and was efficient in using Gregg Shorthand. She was also Worthy Advisor for the Montesano International Order of Rainbow for Girls.
Patti’s communication skills, organizational skills, work ethic, and sense of humor were recognized by those she worked with. She worked for the Social Security Administration, School Districts in Ellensburg and Lake Stevens, Snohomish County PUD, Washington State Department of Public Instruction, Washington State House of Representatives, Governor Booth Gardner’s Election Campaign, and was an active volunteer for the Washington State Democratic Party. In retirement (Patti never really retired) she enjoyed working her fruit orchard in Yakima.
Patti’s greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed entertaining family, friends, vacuuming, cooking, gardening, reading, and canning orchard produce. Patti always found the good and humor associated with everyday life, touching the souls of those who surrounded her.
She was married to Gale Hogan in 1964. Together they had three children, Cyndi (Darrin) Bies of Montesano, Rick Hogan of Vancouver, Wash., and Shannon (Jeff) Clark of Mountain Top, Pa.; four grandchildren, Ryan Hogan, Shelbi Clark, Logan Clark, and Donny Bies. Patti is also survived by her mother, Ruth Hammock; and brother, Ray Hammock. She was preceded in death by her father, Tuffy Hammock; and her brother, Tom Hammock.
She later married Forrest Baugher of Yakima and they divorced after she suffered a stroke.
Patti leaves many family and friends who will forever remember her generosity, humor, laughter, and smile.
A memorial will be held at 1 p.m., on March 15, 2014, at the Church of God in Montesano. A reception will follow immediately after in the fellowship hall. Condolence and tributes may be made at Harrison Family Mortuary at www.harrisonfamilymortuary.com
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to American Stroke Association at www.strokeassociation.org.
