Richard Ellis “Dick” Foster

Richard Ellis “Dick” Foster, a 50-year Harbor resident, passed-away Friday, February 7, 2014, at Saint Peter Hospital in Olympia. He was 87. Dick was born September 7, 1926, in Seattle, to Jesse and Lourine (Ehrgott) Foster. He grew up and attended school in Seattle. He served in U.S. Navy in the Pacific during WWII where he received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained at Okinawa. Dick went on to serve with the Merchant Marines and worked for many years at the Simpson Door Plant. He married Margaret “Maggie” in Montesano in 1979. She preceded him in death on January 25, 2003. Dick was an avid Seahawks fan and was at one time a season ticket holder. He enjoyed playing and later, watching golf. Dick always enjoyed expressing his opinion. He was a member of the Elma Eagles for over 50 years.

He is survived by a stepdaughter, Anne Desain and husband of Baldwinsville, New York; and brothers, Jesse of Elma and James of Ceres, California, grandson, Eric Sheppard and his wife, Lindsey of Shelton; granddaughter, Kacey Thibault and husband, of Utica, New York; grandson, Brandon Sheppard and wife of Avondale, Arizona; and numerous great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings and his wife, Maggie.

A celebration of Rick’s Life will begin at 12 Noon, Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at the Elma Eagles Hall. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Eagles memorial fund in his honor. Please visit and sign the online tribute to Dick @
