Robert Leroy Simpson, 71, a former heavy equipment operator for Weyerhaeuser, died at Willapa Harbor Hospital in South Bend on Saturday, February 15, 2014. He was born in Elma, on August 15, 1942, to Raymond O. and Velma (Sargent) Simpson.
Robert left school early to support his mother and siblings by working various jobs. He joined Weyerhaeuser in the early 1960s, operating trucks and loaders in the Cosmopolis and Bay City sorting yards and retired in 2006.
He was a member of the Aberdeen Eagles, the Raymond Elks Lodge and the Seven Rivers Rifle Club in East Hoquiam. He liked to deer hunt, watch his grandchildren play basketball, playing dominos and woodworking.
Robert is survived by a son, Steve and wife, Angela Simpson of Aberdeen; a daughter, Carrie and husband, Urmas Saagim of Graham, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren; a brother, Fred Simpson of Georgia; a sister, Betty and husband, Chet Hastings of Milton, Wash.; and his companion, Sharon Lindberg and her two children and one grandchild.
A celebration of Bob’s life for family and friends will be held from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the Saron Lutheran Church Annex, 8th & M Street in Hoquiam. A private inurnment will take place at the Satsop Cemetery.
