Rose Mary Swiergula, 96, of Aberdeen passed away Wednesday, January, 8, 2014, at Westhaven Villa. She was a long time resident of Aberdeen, moving from Seattle in her early childhood.
She graduated from Weatherwax High School in l937. On August 7, l941, she married Edward John Sweirgula at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He passed away in l981. In her younger years she was employed by Wahl’s Candy, Kress, and Brennan’s Dept. Store. Rose was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the St. Perpetua Guild, the Altar Society, and the Grays Harbor Community Clothing Bank. Rose loved knitting, reading, gardening, and sewing.
Rose is survived by one son, Richard (Joyce) Swiergula of Montesano; two daughters, Denise (Jack) Seaborn of Seattle and Beverly Swiergula of Olympia; four granddaughters, Kristi Kite of Seatac and Gail Kite of Sequim, Kelly (Mark) Miller of Olympia and Jennae’ Swiergula of Montgomery, Alabama; and three great grandchildren; one sister, Helen Elder of Hoquiam. She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Dusia (Gowdyk) Thomas; and her husband, Edward.
A rosary service will be held Friday, January, 17, 2014, at St. Mary’s Church, 306 E. 3rd St., Aberdeen at 10:30 a.m. with funeral mass at 11 a.m., followed by a reception in the parish hall. A graveside committal service will take place at 2 p.m. at Fern Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to Grays Harbor Community Clothing Bank or St. Mary’s School.
