Remembering the contribution of teachers

Governor Jay Inslee has proclaimed the week of March 17-23 “School Retiree Appreciation Week.”

I hope that you will use that week as a reminder to thank any school retirees you know for the work they did to make sure the education our children received was rewarding and enriching. The retirees include school secretaries, bus drivers, janitors and maintenance workers in addition to the teachers, principals and teacher’s aides who were actually in the classrooms. There may be some categories that I have failed to mention.

Since I am a retired high school math teacher, I hope that everyone realizes that a good education relies heavily on the people who support the classroom teachers.

Many of the retirees continue to be actively engaged in helping in schools throughout our area by volunteering and contributing to scholarships.
