Gear: Lantern brightens fall nights in camp

Fall’s here and days are getting shorter, which means you’ll probably be doing the dishes in the dark at your campsite.

I got a chance to see the Coleman LED lantern in action on the Salmon River while steelhead fishing.

At 580 lumens on high (10 lumens on low), this battery-operated lantern is the brightest Coleman currently offers.

Uses four Cree 7090 XR-E Emitter LEDs. Infinitely adjustable dial for multiple output settings from ultralow to high and is made of weather-resistant material.

It offers a 75-hour run time on low and an eight-hour run time on high.

Powered by eight D-cell batteries (not included).

Cost: About $80.
